Redefining "Locked In"

In a session not long ago, a client looked at me and said,
"I just need to get locked in."
And for a moment, I didn’t say anything.
Because I know what she meant—
That phrase is everywhere.
Lock in. Grind harder. Focus. No distractions. Get to the bag.
It’s dressed up as motivation, but underneath it?
There’s pressure. Shame. Fear that you're behind.
Fear that resting will make you irrelevant.
And all I could think to ask her was:
“What if your season of being locked in looks completely different than everyone
else’s?”
“What if you’re not supposed to be locked in on achievement right now—but on
alignment?”
“What if this is the season where you get locked in… on your healing?”
Because truthfully, no one claps for that.
There’s no viral moment when you decide to finally grieve what you’ve buried.
There’s no shiny announcement when you set a boundary for the first time and mean it.
There’s no standing ovation when you admit you’re exhausted and choose rest over
proving yourself.
But those are the moments that change everything.
So maybe right now, you're not behind.
Maybe you’re being invited to slow down long enough to hear what your body’s been
trying to say.
To feel what you've worked so hard to avoid.
To break patterns—not for applause, but for peace.
Being “locked in” doesn’t always look like movement.
Sometimes it looks like stillness.
Sometimes it’s silent. Private. Lonely, even.
But it’s sacred. And it’s yours.
So if you’re in a season that feels quiet but necessary, tender but intentional—
Don’t rush it.
There’s healing happening, even here.
